Visionary Supervisor Spotlight: Sybil Cummin
We are all about celebrating amazing mental health leaders and clinical supervisors, with plans to highlight one visionary supervisor each month!
This month’s spotlight is: Sybil Cummin, MA, LPC, ACS
What types of supervision do you offer and to whom?
I provide individual supervision for LPCC and interns, Sup of Sup for ACS
What makes you a visionary in supervision?
I think folks are interested in working with me for a myriad of reasons. I have a very diverse range of experiences within the clinical field including a wide range of ages (3-65), a wide range of experience with presenting concerns and levels of acuity and have put a lot of time and effort in one or two specific specialties (working with children who have experienced child abuse/neglect, sexual abuse and victims and survivors of domestic violence.
But more than the clinical experiences that I have under my belt, I believe that many want to work with me due to my style of supervision and willingness to share all I have learned and continue to learn of the business side of mental health. I approach most all situations with openness, human-ness, integrity, and a sense of humor and truly come into the profession with a belief in abundance. I am extremely excited about using our creativity to move past the traditional one-on-one counseling (love that work too) and diversifying their businesses to include other ways to create impact like starting a podcast, online courses, etc.
What is your favorite thing about providing clinical supervision?
I really enjoy developing relationships with my supervisees that allow enough safety to brainstorm and try things that they would not have been brave enough to try in a clinical or business arena, especially with extremely complex cases. I love focusing on professional development with new clinicians in order for them to feel confident enough to know who they are in the field and how and why they are different from their peers. I love helping them find their superpowers that set them apart.
