Do I Want to be a Clinical Supervisor?
Is supervision a goal you are considering for your business growth and development in the new year? Taking your mental health leadership to the next level isn’t a decision for all, but can be a rewarding, fulfilling, and heartfelt role for some. Clinicians that offer supervision tend to:
· Value being in the educator/teacher role
· Love shaping new clinicians’ growth and confidence
· Enjoy discussing cases and clinical interventions
· Embrace leadership and giving back to their community
If this sounds like you, supervision could be a great fit! Here are a couple things to consider before you set supervision services in motion!
1. Training Requirements
Perhaps you have been tracking the training requirements for your licensure in your state? Here in Colorado, the Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) made a decision for 2021 and beyond that indicates training is required to provide supervision of Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCs). Do you have your hours completed and do you have a plan in place to get the three hours of continued education required each license renewal cycle? Check out Supervisionary’s on-demand and live webinar training offerings to get the training hours you need!
2. Contracts in Place
Supervision is a professional relationship between you and your supervisees. Do you have a contract ready and reviewed by your legal representative to organize expectations for both you and your future supervisees? Check out our examples of supervision disclosures for download.
3. Desired Documentation
Do you have documentation and payment systems set up to track hours and provide supervisees with invoices for services rendered? Set goals and document content details of each supervision session with Supervisionary’s free templates.
4. Supervision of the Supervisor
Lastly, it’s important to maintain your own support and growth as a supervisor. Do you have a consultation group, mentor, or supervisor of your own that can help you grow and development your mental health leadership style? As you find the best fit for yourself, check out our book for further growth and self-discovery, titled The Empowerment Model of Clinical Supervision.
Supervision can be a rich and rewarding role for professionals who feel called to this work. 2021 is a new year and a new level for both your business and your leadership! Let’s celebrate your successes and your efforts in shaping the next generation of amazing professionals!
